I. what is smart battery?
At present, a variety of bus technologies are widely used in charge / discharge management of rechargeable batteries, such as BITBUS, SMBus, I2C, USB and SPI.
For example, in notebook computers, bus technology can be used to manage and detect battery parameters, such as battery power status, battery available time, battery remaining power, whether the battery is normal or not, and display the data of battery working status. When the battery power is used up, the computer can automatically shut down and save relevant data. At present, these technologies are widely used by users.
Some people define the smart battery as: Battery + electronic components + control bus = smart battery. Intelligent battery system (SBS) is composed of smart battery, SMBus and smart battery charger.
What is the integrated circuit for charge / discharge protection and control of multiple lithium ion batteries? What are the functions?
Because lithium ion rechargeable battery has a series of advantages and wider application range, some major IC manufacturers in the world (such as Ti, Maxim, SII, linear, Freescale, national and INTERSIL, etc.) have launched many types of lithium-ion battery management IC. The integrated circuits for lithium-ion rechargeable battery management produced by these companies have their own characteristics and excellent performance, which can detect and protect the charging / discharging working state and charging / discharging temperature of each lithium-ion battery. Some of them use 8-bit MCU core and relevant lithium-ion battery charge / discharge status registers to store, analyze and judge the charging / discharging working state of lithium-ion battery, so as to ensure that each lithium-ion battery is fully charged and extend its service life.
For example, the s-8204a / B series of 3 / 4 Li ion battery charge / discharge management and control integrated circuit newly launched by SEI of Japan. S-8204a / B series IC has built-in high-precision voltage detector and delay circuit) which can be used for charge / discharge management of lithium-ion battery and battery pack. It has the control functions of lithium-ion battery charge / discharge temperature detection, overcharge, over discharge and over-current protection, and can realize the charge / discharge protection and control of each lithium-ion battery. S-8204a / B series IC has the characteristics of simple use, convenience and less peripheral components.
If two s-8204a / B series integrated circuits are used in series, the charge / discharge protection control of 5-8 series lithium-ion batteries can be realized. If more s-8204a / b are used in series, it can be used in more lithium-ion battery charge / discharge protection control applications. It is very attractive for electric vehicles, power tools and UPS applications that require high power supply voltage. In these applications, 5-12 lithium-ion batteries are often used in series, and the average power supply voltage range is 18-43.2v.
